Please read these Terms of Use and the Privacy Notice carefully. They form the agreement between you and CIMEGS Academy, and you accept them when you register.
These Terms of Use (the "Terms") govern your registration for, and use of, the CIMEGS Academy website and accounts. By creating an account or by ticking the agreement box during registration, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms and to the Privacy Notice set out below. If you do not agree, please do not register or use the services.
CIMEGS Academy is the training and professional-development division of the Canadian Institute for Middle East and Gulf Studies (CIMEGS), a Canadian federal not-for-profit corporation (No. 1577455-1). CIMEGS Academy is an internal, non-academic division. It is not a university, college, or degree-granting institution, and it is not an accreditation or licensing body.
Registration is open to three categories of user:
You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information, to keep it up to date, and to keep your password confidential. You are responsible for all activity under your account. You must be of legal age in your jurisdiction, and where you register on behalf of a centre or organization, you confirm that you are authorized to do so. Trainer and centre accounts are reviewed before activation, and we may approve, decline, or suspend any account at our discretion.
Creating an account establishes a user account only. It does not, by itself, create any employment relationship, partnership, joint venture, agency, franchise, branch, representative office, or authority to act for CIMEGS or CIMEGS Academy.
Registration alone does not authorize any program, the collection of any fee in the name of CIMEGS, the issuance of any certificate, the use of the CIMEGS names, logos, seals, or verification system (the "CIMEGS Marks"), or any claim of CIMEGS approval, recognition, or accreditation. Any actual cooperation, including delivering a program, issuing certificates, or obtaining recognition, is authorized only through a separate written program annex or written approval signed by CIMEGS, and only within the scope it states.
Until such written authorization exists, no trainer or centre may describe itself as a branch, accredited centre, representative, partner, or certifying body of CIMEGS, or use the CIMEGS Marks.
Certificates issued by CIMEGS Academy are limited to certificates of participation, certificates of completion, and attendance confirmations. They are non-academic. No certificate, and no statement or material issued by the Academy, constitutes or implies an academic degree, a university diploma, academic credit, a regulated professional credential, a professional licence, or any governmental accreditation. Certificate verification confirms only that a certificate number corresponds to a participant who attended or completed a specific program.
Where CIMEGS Academy recognizes a program of a cooperating trainer or centre, that recognition is a non-academic endorsement limited to the specific program, edition, and period stated. It is not accreditation, and it confers no academic degree, regulated professional credential, or governmental accreditation. Recognition may be made subject to conditions and may be withdrawn.
You agree to use the website and your account lawfully and in good faith. In particular, you agree not to:
You are responsible for complying with all laws that apply to you, including any licensing, tax, advertising, consumer-protection, and data-protection requirements in your jurisdiction.
The website, the CIMEGS Marks, and the content published by the Academy are owned by CIMEGS or its licensors. Training materials remain the property of their authors or owners. Nothing here transfers ownership. You may not copy, republish, sell, adapt, or distribute the Academy's content or another party's materials outside an approved program without prior written approval. Where you submit materials for an approved program, you grant CIMEGS a limited, non-exclusive licence to use them solely to administer, document, and evaluate that program.
We respect your privacy and handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
What we collect: the details you provide at registration (such as your name, email, country, phone, and the organization you represent), your account activity, and any data needed to register you in a program or to issue and verify a certificate.
Why we use it: to create and manage your account, to register you in programs, to issue and verify certificates, to communicate with you, to provide follow-up, and to comply with the law. Our legal basis for processing is your consent, which you give when you accept these Terms.
International transfer: CIMEGS is based in Canada, and your data may be processed and stored in Canada. If you are located outside Canada, you consent to the transfer of your data to Canada. Depending on where you are, your data may also be subject to local law, for example the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or, for trainees of Tunisian centres, Tunisian Law No. 2004-63.
Sharing and retention: we do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to deliver a program, to verify certificates, to comply with the law, or where you have consented. We keep it for as long as needed for these purposes and to maintain a record of certificates issued.
Your choices: you may ask to access or correct your information, or withdraw your consent, by contacting us at academy@cimeg.ca. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer maintain your account or the related services.
The website and services are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. CIMEGS Academy does not guarantee any particular outcome, and in particular does not guarantee employment, a regulated credential, a licence, or any academic recognition. To the maximum extent permitted by law, CIMEGS, its directors, officers, and volunteers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost profits or revenue, arising from your use of the website or services. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CIMEGS, its directors, officers, volunteers, and divisions from any claim, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your breach of any law, any unauthorized use of the CIMEGS Marks, any unauthorized claim about certificates or accreditation, or any infringement of third-party rights by materials you supply.
We may suspend or close an account, or withdraw recognition, where there is a breach of these Terms, a misrepresentation, a misuse of the CIMEGS Marks or verification numbers, a misuse of personal data, or conduct that harms participants or the reputation of CIMEGS. You may close your account at any time by contacting us. Provisions that by their nature should survive, including those on intellectual property, privacy, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnity, continue to apply after an account ends.
These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and CIMEGS regarding your registration for, and use of, CIMEGS Academy.
By accepting these Terms, you agree that they supersede and replace any prior agreement, arrangement, understanding, draft, or signed contract between you and CIMEGS on the same subject, including any earlier framework agreement or cooperation document, whether written or signed. Any such prior or separately signed document ceases to have effect, and only your acceptance of these Terms through this portal governs your relationship with CIMEGS Academy.
We may update these Terms from time to time. The version date shown above indicates when they were last changed, and your continued use of the services after that date means you accept the updated Terms. These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the applicable federal laws of Canada, and the courts of Ontario have jurisdiction. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
For any question about these Terms or your personal data, contact us at academy@cimeg.ca.
